If you wanna get something done, Give it to a busy person

This in my email sent box. From time to time, I think, "i really wanna show you my inbox." So I did this for posterity (and posterous).

Mysentmail

I would show you my inbox but suffice it to say, that would prolly piss some people off. And, all you have to do to get an idea of my inbox is take my sent mail frequency and times it by 5. I only respond to one in 5 messages!

The Number 1 Biggest Reason I Get Tons of Clients

Media_httpdisgrasianc_amqfn

Branding. People remember me when they need my help-- even years after they meet me. And here's how I make myself unforgettable:

Media_httpayfrogcomim_zkhig

Every single person you reply to automatically gets stored in your contacts. So think about it. Every single person who replies to you gets to keep your email address in their contacts rollodex. But BFD! At the end of 10 years, you've got 10,000 contacts you can't put a name or a face too... the contacts sound like basementlove85@hotmail.com or greensparkle1@yahoo.com ... what good is that?

So what I do is make sure that all the thousands of people who reply to me every year can easily find me again.

My email FROM name is:

"Marketing Web Social Media Twitter Facebook Youtube NYC LA SF starbucks Bob Wan Kim Asian Korean Genius" <bob.wan.kim@gmail.com>

Yep. I build in tags into my email address so everyone remembers where they met me and who I am.

PS. not only that, but since google has an autocomplete feature, the more letter combos I put in my email name, they see my name whenever they are trying to email anyone whose email address has any number of matching combinations.

For example, if they are trying to email "Mark(us) Phillips," google automatically makes my name pop up. Even if they are trying to email "Soc(cer Coach)," my email comes up because it matches the words "Soc(ial Media)."

Do it.

Pro Tip: How to Double Your Email / Gmail Security and Features

Media_httppctechnotes_jbdbf

So I have this really old Yahoo email address from my Dot Com days. And yes, contacts, and old emails I still need for my records.

I also have a Gmail account from back when only the sexy people got gmail accounts. I must admit, Google's algorithm works.

The funny thing about having two different email accounts is that I love Gmail's searchability while I love Yahoo's simple linear email stream. I hate Gmail's clustering because when I get 37 emails with the same subject line, they all get clustered together and I can't tell who's what. But then, I reallllly hate Yahoo's email search. It can't even find emails that I'm staring at.

But worse yet, Yahoo email actually loses emails temporarily while their servers cache and move around. I've seen entire folders disappear and then reappear after I've had a few more Margaritas.

So, I went all-pro on my email system's ass; had to do it. I syncronised and duplicated all my Yahoo into my Gmail account. Now, I can see all my Gmail in linear fashion via Yahoo, I can search and find every email from 15 years ago using Gmail, I have data redundancy, and best of all, I have Jager Shots waiting.

How to Automatically Add Senders Email Addresses to Contacts in Gmail

Media_httpyumiandlaur_uftdf

If you're building up your "Rolodex," this tip trick is priceless. Over the years, I've collected thousands, no, hundreds of thousands of emails. Funny thing is that while I may have nothing to say to 99.99% of these people who've emailed me in the past, I'd love to have them as twitter followers and facebook friends. The beauty of twitter and facebook is that they both allow you to import your gmail contacts. Yay!

But before we can do that, we have to extract the senders' email addresses and store them as contacts first.

There are a couple ways to do this. First, the most rapid way is to simply export all your emails into a spreadsheet and re import only the FROM fields. This isn't that hard to do. Just read about importing email addresses to gmail. And of course, you'll need to know how to use Excel. It's simple too.

Or if you just want to add email addresses to your contacts selectively, one at a time, all you have to do is either

- reply

- forward

- or mark sender as "Not Spam."

The third one is the least invasive.

If you have any questions about marketing your company, service, or iphone app, let's get together and team up... find me at http://twitter.com/journik say hi!
